International Festival of Films on Art

The 29th International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) began Thursday in Montreal. For nearly three decades, the festival has featured documentaries on subjects as diverse as: movies, music, graffiti, dance, literature, architecture and comics. The art of FIFA is not elitist, it is unifying. Until March 27, 227 films from 22 countries will be presented in nine venues in Montreal. Here is my selection of 10 movies not to be missed.

While I was at Nuit Blanche, I visited Black Light, an exhibition of art made with fluorescent lights and paint. The exhibition took place at Bains Mathieu. Here are some pictures of the exhibition which included a dozen artists from Montreal.

Nuit Blanche

The Montreal Nuit Blanche will take place this Saturday February 26 starting at 8 p.m. 175 activities, free for the most part, await you. Performances, exhibitions and shows will take place in three districts of the city: the Old Part, Downtown and Plateau Mont-Royal. A free shuttle service will connect Festival fans to all activity sites and the metro will remain open all night long.

Queen Tribe Holiday

The new star of Asian fashion design arrives in Montreal. Jirat Supisankul’s exhibition Queen Tribe Holiday was a smashing success in Paris last fall and now it’s in Montreal. The exhibition is on display at Nowhere Gallery  and I was lucky enough to attend the opening last Wednesday.

Pj Harvey’s new single is out!

Singer Pj Harvey is coming back this year with a very promising album (or it seems listening to the first tracks) ”Let England Shake”, her ninth full length in career. With a similar softer sound as her last albums, Harvey demonstrates once again that she is constantly evolving with melodies that might even remind of Montreal’s own Arcade Fire. Here’s a sample with first single The Last Living Rose:
